On Monday July 4th Michel Terstegen passed away. Michel was the founder and proud owner of Da Capo Records located at the Oudegracht in Utrecht. His superb knowledge and unconditional love especially for sixties music plus his strong will and character, have made a lasting impression on many people.

With Barry looking after the shop, we were able to keep the shop open for another few months. That gave us the opportunity to celebrate its 25th anniversary! But it's impossible to fill the void Michel left behind. His personality and the endless know how of the shop which he bore, can never be replaced by anyone or anything. When Michel died, the iconic collectors shop Da Capo Records also came to an end.

These last few months there have been negotiations with other parties to see if there could be a future for Da Capo, in a different form but based on the same premise of love for vinyl records and music. There were many inspiring plans and ideas, but up to now none of them were realizable.

This means that there has come an end to 25 years of musical history, a meeting place for vinyl lovers from all over the world, in the heart of Utrecht.

Michel is being missed. Da Capo will be missed. One last thanks to all the customers, collectors, employees and friends of Da Capo:

it truly was an amazing time!

Da Capo Records opened it’s doors on the 1st of August 1986. Since then it has become one of the leading specialist's shops in The Netherlands in the field of original and elementary music genres; from Rhythm & Blues, fifties rock’n’roll and sixties beat to garage, punk, wave and other alternative music styles. Stock consists of nearly all available re-issues on vinyl concerning sixties pop, garage and psychedelia as well as a wide selection of jazz, blues, soul, ska and soundtracks. All essential and less easy to find CD’s in this field are also available. Ever since the early days of our shop we have accumilated a huge amount of all things punk, wave, independents and alternative. First and foremost on vinyl and to a lesser extent also on CD. The amount of 7” singles available in our shop is unequalled in Holland!

Secondhand albums and singles in the musical genres described above are available in our basement, The Beatcave. Here you’ll also find Beatsville Corner, Signed DC Books, our book department specialized in Beat Generation, Provo, hippie and other youth cults. Obviously you’ll also find here plenty of music books and magazines.

Until 1994 Da Capo was also Home of Kelt Records. On this legendary Dutch independent label bands such as The Otherside, The Comedown, The Kliek, Daryll-Ann and The Blue Guitars released their debut singles and EP’s. On this site you’ll find a complete discography as well as information of what’s still available.

Since 1999 the magazine Warm Sounds is published twice a year. The magazine gives a history of Dutch record companies in the fifties and sixties, complete with label listings and background information. Although the magazine is written in Dutch, the listings speak for itself with all sorts of information for record freaks unavailable elsewhere and mostly published here for the first time ever.

Our stock is too big to include in one complete database. As it also changes all the time, a visit to the shop is most recommended. However, we have started to set up a database, merely the tip of the iceberg. Listings will be added all the time with goods that are actually available - we offer no virtual stock!

Here you’ll find thousands of punk, wave, garage, independents and alternative 7” singles from the late seventies to the present day. These are all new, unplayed items, available from stock.

It's no longer possible to place orders.
